This weekend’s matchup between Napoli and Lazio, two of the top teams in Serie A, promises to be an exciting showdown. The two teams that finished first and second last year have gotten off to polarizing starts this year, with the home team winning both of their games and the away team losing both of theirs.
On Saturday night, Napoli will host Lazio at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, hoping to keep up their Scudetto defense. The Partenopei have gotten off to a great start this season, having already won both of their games.
Unfortunately, Saturday has not gone well for the guests. Lazio has gotten off to an unexpectedly bad start, losing to two teams predicted to be fighting relegation come May: Genoa and Lecce. It’s possible that the Aquile’s lack of vitality in the middle was underappreciated because of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s absence.
Napoli is our pick to win all three points this weekend and extend their winning streak to three games. Despite the sale of Kim Min-jae and the injury to Kvicha Kvaraskhelia, Rudi Garcia seems to have picked up just where Luciano Spalletti left off.
The latter came off the bench and has contributed to the team since his comeback last weekend. With Napoli being on a scoring tear, it’s no wonder that forward Victor Osimhen is the betting favorite to open the scoring. Osimhen currently leads the Serie A scoring statistics after finishing as the league’s capocannoniere in 2017.
With five goals scored in two games by the Partenopei, and Lazio’s defense appearing vulnerable, the weekend matchup could be a shootout.
However, Napoli isn’t the only team with a dangerous attack this weekend; Ciro Immobile of Lazio is one of the few strikers in the league with a goalscoring record to rival Osimhen’s record. Despite his team’s slow start, the captain has found the scoresheet.
