Game Preview

Led by Ja Morant, who almost achieved a triple-double (23 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds), the Memphis Grizzlies managed to avoid another upset in Game 2. It was Memphis’ largest margin of victory in a playoff game (124-96). In other words, an extra dose of motivation.

Besides Morant, six other players scored 10+ points. Brandon Clark, Ziaire Williams, Tyus Jones, and Xavier Tillman did it coming off the bench. Depth can make a huge difference, especially in the postseason.

Another key aspect was to limit Anthony Edwards to 20 points (36 in Game 1) and Karl-Anthony Towns to 15 (29 in Game 1). Plus, Patrick Beverley and D’Angelo Russell shot for 16.7% and 27.3%. That can’t happen again, at least not if the T-Wolves want to stand a chance.

Now, the Western Conference first-round series moves to Minneapolis, where the home side owns a 27-15 record. The Target Center was crucial for the T-Wolves to advance as they won nine of their last 12 games. That includes the 109-104 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in the Play-in tournament.

“We stole one in their home court. I’m not worried. I hope my teammates aren’t worried. They got to come to our house and play us twice at the crib. Our crowd, I’ll put our crowd up there with the best of them,” said Edwards to the press.

Despite Edwards’ confidence, the visiting Grizzlies come in as the NBA Betting favorites at -2. Memphis is 5-2 against the spread in its last seven games on the road against Minnesota. As for the total (236½), it went over in six of their last 10 meetings.

Killian Tillie and Santi Aldama remain out for the Grizzlies. Morant suffered a minor injury (quad) on Tuesday, but there’s no need to panic. No. 12 is officially listed as probable. The T-Wolves injury report is empty.
