A strong middleweight main event that promises a battle of styles and illustrious boxing families kicks off British boxing’s 2023 season. Naturally, Chris Eubank Jr. carries the name of his well-known father, but Liam Smith is one of four fighting brothers who have all held British titles and at the very least competed on the international stage.
Even though this bout is not for a title, it will likely determine which of the two will pursue significant titles in the future. Since then, he has also suffered tough defeats at the hands of the much larger Jaime Munguia and Magomed Kurbanov (which he felt, along with many observers, should have gone to him). He seemed to think that the last one was his ticket back to world-level battles, so it particularly hurt. If he can win this highly visible match, he hopes to take that next step this year after a run of three good but lower-level victories.
