Fight Preview
Deontay Wilder is tempted to retire but will instead face Robert Helenius on Saturday in Brooklyn. The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds in the heavyweight division at the Barclays Center in New York. One of the top favorites is former WBC champion Wilder. Helenius shows promise but is underrated at the moment.
This fight may or may not be a surprise as both fighters have been out of action for the same amount of time. Although Helenius is on a hot streak he is still far from his prime.
Just as Helenius was gaining momentum and imposing fear in the heavyweight division, injuries and more problems began to wear him down. With this came two knockout losses to Wilder’s previous victims, Gerald Washington and Johan Duhaupass.
At almost 37 years old, Wilder still feels he has enough power, he is still a titan after all. Although there are still questions about his confidence and mental state after being out of the ring for so long. Wilder still has power, we all know his magic right hand. However this only works when he has the opponent lined up to throw it.
Wilder should come out on top easily if he looks to land that right hand. Helenius has been beaten by lesser fighters and it’s hard to imagine someone almost 37 years old moving fast for 12 rounds, let alone coming out intact.
