Fight Preview
This weekend marks GH3 Promotions’ inaugural show at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Vito Mielnicki Jr of the United States takes on Salim Larbi of France in a super welterweight battle.
Both fighters are on an upward trend within their divisions. Mielnicki, 21, is a former WBA Continental Americas and World Youth champion. From Roseland New Jersey he has won all his fights this year including an impressive knockout win against durable Alexis Salazar on November’s Benavidez-Andrade card at Mandalay Bay Las Vegas.
Larbi, 36 years old from Cambrai in France and an experienced veteran, boasts 22 wins out of 35 fights fought – two notable victories being over Patrice Sou Toke back in 2013. However, on March 11 in Orlando Florida Larbi lost by 10 round unanimous decision to Thomas LaManna.
Larbi anticipates an intense bout with Mielnicki. Larbi believes he has all of the tools to knock Mielnicki off his feet early using boxing abilities to take him down early and finish off this opponent.
Even with such high stakes, this fight provides both fighters an opportunity to show their skills. For Mielnicki, it marks another step on his road towards world title contention: “I’m looking forward to this fight a great deal and my body feels ready.”
New Jersey-based fighters rounded out the fight card, with Newark-based Michael Anderson (23-3-1, 17 KOs) going up against Eudy Bernardo of Elias Pina, Dominican Republic in a ten-round welterweight bout and local middleweight Thomas LaManna (36-5-1, 15 KOs) meeting Nicolas Hernandez from Puerto Rico for a 10-round middleweight clash.
Mielnicki and Larbi both want to move up into the rankings’ top 10. A victory would be an immense boost toward this goal; however, achieving it may prove challenging. A close and competitive battle may provide the perfect way to start their eventful week.
