Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez will fight on February 3 for much more than just the British light heavyweight title. Both Londoners, undefeated, hungry fighters looking to prove who’s better in terms of pound-for-pound fighting; both fighters will likely become contenders for WBA world title contention should they come out victorious on Saturday.
These two boxers were once close, training and sparring together prior to their debut fight as professional boxers. But, once it came time for signing their fight contracts, tensions rose considerably – and their bout was postponed due to Azeez’s back injury last month, things escalated even more rapidly.
Buatsi and Azeez were scheduled to fight before; however, due to a scheduling clash with Artur Beterbiev and Callum Smith’s world title fight they decided to move their fight to February 3 at Wembley Arena where both fighters reside.
Buatsi and Azeez are both unbeaten, so the winner should likely challenge for the WBA world title. However, that decision may take time; as the defender may wish to defend both titles before challenging either Buatsi or Azeez for them.
Promoter Ben Shalom is excited about this fight. It has long been established that the winner of Buatsi vs Azeez will have an opportunity at winning a world title shot. Both fighters will give their best performances trying to keep making a name for themselves and ultimately getting a title shot.
These lofty goals are ambitious ones for any fighter, yet especially so for two undefeated competitors who are pitted against each other to determine who becomes King in their respective cities. Both fighters know this is an incredible opportunity and are eager to grab it with both hands.
