Regis Prograis has won two world championships and his ambitions extend even higher in the junior welterweight division. A native of New Orleans, Prograis will attempt to defend his WBC championship against Danielito Zorrilla on Saturday evening at his Smoothie King Center homecoming bout.
Prograis is set to enter this fight as a massive favorite against Zorrilla, who comes in as an underdog. Such disparity shows how people expect Prograis’ superior punching power will prevail against Zorrilla who boasts only one knockout victory thus far in his professional career.
Prograis is currently riding high after winning four of his last five fights – most notably an 11th round stoppage over Jose Zepeda to capture the vacant WBC belt last November – and this will mark his first title defense in New Orleans since beating Terry Flanagan last year.
Prograis has an excellent record when competing on home ground and the electric atmosphere should play to his strengths. Zorrilla (17-1-13 KOs), promoted by legendary boxer Miguel Cotto, hopes to change that trend. The Puerto Rican fighter has shown plenty of skill during previous outings; including winning the WBO NABO title via second-round knockout against Pablo Cesar Cano and defeating Arnold Barboza Jr. This month he has come in on short notice and faced Prograis with gusto; hoping to prove he deserves consideration at such an elite level.
Both fighters will likely look to keep the fight moving quickly in its initial stages, producing several exciting rounds that bettors might predict as potentially decisive in terms of hand speed, ring craft and durability – something Prograis is likely to push hard for with his superior hand speed, craft and endurance in particular. Bettor might consider betting early rounds where you expect Prograis might push hard for an early stoppage as he tends to make aggressive attacks for early stoppages more frequently than his opponent does.
