The second half of the season has been the Mariners’ best of the season. They enjoyed a winning month of over 20 games in August, and are now only one game behind the Houston Astros in the American League West. The Mariners have been on a roll as of late, and now they control the second Wild Card slot by 1.5 games.
Recently, Seattle played a three-game series in Cincinnati, where they went 0-2. Next up for the Mariners is a three-game set against the Rays, followed by games against the Dodgers, Rangers, Astros, and Astros again to round out the season. Their September agenda is, needless to say, rather demanding. If Seattle wants to keep their playoff berth, they’ll need to perform at a high level.
Mariners vs Rays Betting Picks
The Mariners have relied on Luis Castillo as their ace all season. His statistics as a pitcher are 3.19 ERA, 1.03 WHIP,.214 oBA, and 9.72 K/9. He has a history of occasional collapses in the big game, but he always finds a way to come back strong.
The Rays are in hot pursuit of the Baltimore Orioles, who currently own the American League’s best record. Even though they’re 3.5 games back in the standings, Tampa Bay has the second-best record in the American League. The Rays risk losing the tiebreaker for home field throughout the playoffs if they are unable to overtake the Orioles and secure the third spot.
That said, Tampa Bay has been performing admirably. Seven of their previous 10 games have been victories, and they just finished a series victory in Boston. Similar to the Mariners, the Rays do not have a light September schedule. If the Rays want to catch the Orioles this month, they’ll need to win a lot of games.
