Game Preview

On Wednesday night, the Texas Rangers will play the Los Angeles Angels in the rubber game of a three-game series in Anaheim, California, hoping to move closer to clinching their first postseason appearance in seven seasons. In addition, Texas is anticipating the return of star shortstop Corey Seager.

There are five games left for the Rangers to play and they currently lead the Houston Astros by 2 1/2 games and the Seattle Mariners by 3.

Even though Texas lost Tuesday’s game 9-3 to the Angels, they maintained their lead over the Astros despite Houston’s loss to the Mariners. The loss ended a six-game winning streak for the Rangers.

The fact that Seager wasn’t seriously wounded after he was hit by a pitch from Reid Detmers in the fifth inning is probably the best news. Seager, along with three other Rangers, left the game before the bottom of the sixth inning because of the 9-1 deficit. The results of X-rays on Seager were negative, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Texas would rather not be without Seager in the final, vital week. The four-time All-Star has a.332 batting average, 33 home runs, and 96 RBIs in 114 games, making him the American League’s top hitter.

There were only six hits for the Rangers on Tuesday. Adolis Garcia, an All-Star in right field, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in his return game after suffering a knee injury.

Despite having nothing to play for, the Angels were on top of their game on Tuesday, picking up a win for only the third time in their last 13 contests. Detmers shut down the Texas bats for seven innings, allowing only one run thanks to a three-homer opening inning from Brandon Drury.

Angels right-hander Griffin Canning will try to end a winless skid of five starts. During that time, he has an ERA of 3.68 and a record of 0-3. On Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays, Canning gave two runs on three hits over five innings and got a no-decision.

Meanwhile, Dane Dunning will start for Texas. In his last three outings, 28-year-old Dunning has a perfect 2-0 record and a 3.86 ERA. On Friday, he allowed four runs and four hits over 5 1/3 innings while defeating the Mariners.
