Seattle Mariners vs Miami Marlins: Picks & Odds 4/29/2022

April 29, 2022

Two of the more solid mid card teams in this MLB season will be kicking off a three-game interleague series today as the Miami Marlins that are looking to continue riding high on their five-game winning streak that includes a recent sweep of the Nationals earlier in the week will be playing host to the Seattle Mariners who are more than ready to turn around their latest losing slump that accounts to two defeats in as many games.

For Miami, it will be RHP Elieser Hernandez who will be given the task to score the first win of the series from the mound as well as extend the team’s winning streak to six, while for Seattle, the starting pitching duties will fall to RHP Matt Brash, who will have two big tasks in hand, scoring his second win of the season as well as taking his team out of their recent losing streak.

Game Preview

While it’s too early to consider the Marlins as the only true threat to the Mets in the NL East division, with the way they’ve been playing lately, it’s not hard to make the argument for Miami. With five wins in as many games, the Marlins are rolling and they don’t look like they’re anywhere close to being done with their winning ways.

If you were to compare this season’s Marlins team to last season’s squad, it would be very, very hard to find enough similarities between both. But that’s good for Miami, because unlike last season, this year the team is showing great signs of comradery amongst everyone in the roster and it’s all leading to a team that’s playing very good baseball.

Their offense still needs to pick up the pace a bit more, but their pitching core continues to show early signs of elite baseball, which, if continues this way, could end up being the biggest flex for Miami as the season progresses and pitching depth starts becoming more and more important.

For the Mariners, the facts need to be said as clearly as possible. This team is too good for the way they’ve been performing as of lately. Taking two losses against a Tampa Bay team that’s not up to their level is not a good look, especially with a team that looks very solid on all sides of the ball.

If the Mariners wish to give the LA Angels a true run for their money in the AL West division top, they need to start playing better and winning important games, which is exactly why Seattle needs his team in tip-top shape if they wish to be able to stop a hotter-than-ever Marlins team.
