Game Preview

This is the last game of the two-game series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Cards will try to close the series out with a victory in their books. Yesterday we saw the Cardinals struggle during the game after Mikolas wasn’t having his best performance against the Blue Jays, giving up three runs on four hits and two talks over 6.2 innings. But the hero of the night was Paul Goldschmidt, as he ripped Ryan Borucki slider for a walkoff slam in the 10th inning, closing out the game with a 7-3 in his team’s favor.

Today, Kevin Gausman will be the starting pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays. Gaus has made 8 starts in this season, and carries a 3-3 record, a 2.52 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP over the 50 innings he’s pitched in. Last Wednesday we saw Gausman take the loss against the Seattle Mariners after pitching 5 innings and allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk, he only managed to strike out 3 batters. Cal Raleigh hit a homer during the fifth inning and that was the deciding factor in the Mariners win over the Blue Jays.

Jordan Hicks will be the one opening up the second game for the St. Louis Cardinals. The 25-year-old right handed pitcher carries a 4.21 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP over the 25⅔ innings he’s pitched in. In his last start against the New York Mets, Hicks struggled quite a lot with his control, as only 39 of his 82 pitches crossed the plate. He hit two of the Mets batters and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks, which wasn’t his best performance of this season so far. It’s going to be very important for Hicks to step up in this upcoming game if he wants to give his team a 2-0 series win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
