Clemson Tigers have an opportunity to make a statement on Tuesday September 4th against a Duke Blue Devils team that seems disorganized. Clemson may be one of only a handful of ACC teams capable of challenging elite competition, yet the question remains as to whether Clemson can maintain its momentum against one of the nation’s top-10 teams.
Some believe that the coming campaign will determine if Clemson is in decline or not, placing the Tigers at an important point. The Tigers will play a Duke Blue Devils group that is more capable than most people think in Week 1 of the upcoming season. Riley Leonard, the primary quarterback, is a great player. Mike Elko, Duke’s head coach in his second season, has the potential to shock many people once more.
Another Monday night home opener awaits Dabo Swinney and the Tigers, but this time it involves Duke away from home, which will be much harder. Under Mike Elko, the Blue Devils are a dark horse contender in the ACC and are above the plan with Riley Leonard, an All-SEC quarterback, returning. The only other quarterback duel of the inaugural weekend that might be better than this is Jayden Daniels vs. Jordan Travis the night before. This narrative includes the introduction of Garrett Riley’s fresh-look Clemson offense as well as Cade Klubnik’s performance as the new rescuer of this program.
Coach Mike Elko will lead the Duke Football program towards the upcoming 2023 campaign with optimism overflowing after a 9-4 campaign that ended with a Military Bowl win. Elko will also have a few made-for-television clashes on their own turf ready to highlight all the advancements made by the management and college when Elko took over just over a year ago. Having won only 3 matches in 2021, the Blue Devils are considered one of the best improved programs in the country this past season.
The Atlantic and Coastal Divisions were eliminated under the ACC’s new scheduling scheme, which was implemented last June. On December 2, in Charlotte, the ACC Championship Game will be played between the 2 teams with the highest league winning percentage.
