Saturday September 2nd will feature a college football game of national significance and enormous intrigue: Colorado Buffaloes versus TCU Horned Frogs will meet for their inaugural meeting in Fort Worth in an encounter that could
d shape both programs’ fates in Big 12.
This game holds great promise for both TCU’s rebuilding efforts as well as Colorado, who lost several key pieces this offseason and are in a period of transition.
TCU returns most of its starting lineup from last season’s College Football Playoff-clinching team and should head into its new era in the Big 12 under Coach Sonny Dykes with plenty of confidence. On the other side, Colorado Buffs are embarking upon theirs under Deion Sanders, who has brought some fresh energy to Boulder since taking his FBS coaching position.
Last year, as the Horned Frogs embarked on a fantastical voyage to the College Football Playoff, Sonny Dykes brought sunshine to TCU. Is a recurrence of that performance reasonable to expect, or are the supporters outraged to be so arrogant?
The Horned Frogs will need to find some crucial alternatives for Max Duggan this coming season, but TCU could still be among the favorites in the Big 12.
Colorado must improve upon a shoddy finish to last season when they allowed 15.4 total points per game and 108.3 yards rushing per game. Colorado’s quarterback situation remains uncertain, with Brendon Lewis likely splitting snaps between Maddox Kopp and Owen McCown likely serving as their starting passers. It makes for an unpredictable game against an experienced TCU defense.
After a fantastic offseason, everyone is eager to find out how Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes group will play out. Is his influence, his transfer gateway approach, actually sufficient to suddenly turn what is likely the weakest Power Five squad into a legitimate game-winner. Since the Buffs have gathered enough offensive tools to defeat TCU in Week 1, their defense will likely pose the largest challenge.
