Despite not being a big TV draw, the Camellia Bowl between Northern Illinois and Arkansas State, both 6-6, is looking to be among the more competitive games of the collegiate bowl campaign. The match will be played on December 23rd.
Following their most recent victory over Kent State, Northern Illinois is back to playing at .500. With a 6-6 record, the Huskies have begun preparing for this week’s match. Rocky Lombardi scored two touchdowns on the ground in addition to one touchdown passing against Kent State. 183 yards of passing and a 50% completion percentage were his final stats. Against Kent State, Northern Illinois’ main rusher, Gavin Williams, amassed 103 running yards and carried the football 17 times. Sadly, he was unable to get a rushing touchdown during the contest. Kyle Thomas led the team in receiving yards for the match with one catch for 45 yards. By the end of the game, Kent State had gained 363 yards in total from the Huskies defense. Compared to 245 yards in the passing game, the team’s run defense gave up 118 yards of rush yardage. With 23 sacks as well as a top ranking in quarterback rushes, the Huskies defense will be ready to play.
Arkansas State, who just lost to Marshall 35–21, will try to get back over .500 this week. Jaylen Raynor completed 50% of his passes for 263 yards against Marshall. He completed one touchdown throw with a quarterback rating of 70.39 in the defeat. Ja’Quez Cross was Arkansas State’s best rusher versus Marshall. He got 27 yards of gain from scrimmage and scored once on 11 attempts. Corey Rucker led Arkansas State in receptions versus Marshall. Despite not having a touchdown catch, he finished with 5 grabs for 87 yards. Marshall had 493 total yards against the Red Wolves defense by the end of the game. In contrast to 214 yards in the passing aspect of the game, the team’s run defense gave up 279 yards of rush yardage. Arkansas State’s defense, which is ranked 54th in terms of receiving yards surrendered per match, is getting set to face Northern Illinois. Against the Red Wolves, opponents have attempted 33.4 passes on average each game.
