Cotton Bowl: Missouri vs Ohio State Picks & Preview 12/29/2023

Game Preview

On December 29, at AT&T Stadium, the Ohio State Buckeyes and Missouri Tigers will square off in the Cotton Bowl.

According to head coach Eli Drinkwitz, Missouri had a breakout season, prevailing in ten games and earning a New Year’s Six bowl. The Tigers aren’t done, though. This could be a program-changing opportunity. For the Cotton Bowl in 2023, Missouri is therefore anticipated to have nearly its whole roster available, possibly with the exception of cornerback Ennis Rakestraw. Quarterback Brady Cook threw for 3,189 yards and 20 touchdowns during the NCAAF season, this is undoubtedly an encouraging development. In terms of scoring (34.1 PPG) and yards per game (442.9), Missouri was ranked 25th. With two exceptions, a 23-19 triumph against Middle Tennessee and a 30-21 loss to Georgia, the Tigers produced 30 points or more 10 times. Ty’Ron Hopper, a senior linebacker, and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., a junior cornerback, will not play for Missouri.

Ohio State finished 11-1, but a 30-24 loss to rival Michigan on November 25 prevented them from making it back to the College Football Playoffs. The Buckeyes are therefore dealing with a large number of possible opt-outs and transfers. First off, sophomore quarterback Devin Brown will take the ball in the college bowl game because Kyle McCord moved to Syracuse. Brown only made five appearances this season, and he barely got any playing time. For 197 yards, he finished 12 of his 22 passes. Luckily for the Buckeyes, it has been announced that cornerback Denzel Burke, defensive end Jack Sawyer, and receiver Emeka Egbuka will participate in the college bowl. However, it’s still unclear how Marvin Harrison Jr., an All-American receiver, is doing. After acquiring 67 passes for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns, Harrison Jr. was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He has the option to forego playing for the NFL Draft, where he is expected to be selected in the top five.
