On December 16, college football from Brooks Stadium will take place in the Myrtle Beach Bowl between the Georgia Southern Eagles and the Ohio Bobcats.
This season, Georgia Southern had a great start at 6-2, dropping just games to Wisconsin and James Madison during that time. Since then, though, the Eagles’ success has been difficult to measure as they have lost their last four games. In their last game, the Eagles faced Appalachian State, and although they led 14-3 at the half, they lost 55-27 in a blowout after giving up double digit points in the last 3 quarters. OJ Arnold topped the run with 58 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Davis Brin ended with 238 yards and 3 interceptions. Ten receptions by receiver Khaleb Hood resulted in 95 yards and a touchdown. Georgia Southern is ranked 41st in the FBS with an offensive total of 422.3 yards per game, while they rank 95th with respect to defense, giving up 399.8 yards permitted per game.
The Bobcats’ isolated losses thus far this season have come from San Diego State (in the season opener), Northern Illinois, and Miami-Oh. Ohio’s 32 total touchdowns have allowed them to score 22.9 points every game on average. In addition to 137.1 rush yards each game and 14 touchdowns, the Bobcats averaged 210.6 passing yards per game with 15 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Following the break, Ohio’s most recent game against Akron proceeded rather well. By halftime, the Bobcats were behind 14-3, but they rallied to win 25-14. QB Kurtis Rourke scored and gained 208 yards. Receiver Miles Cross recorded 7 receptions for 103 yards and a score, while Sieh Bangura contributed 121 rush yards and his own touchdown. Ohio has been playing excellent defense, giving up just 263.7 total yards per game, which is 4th-best and its offensive production, which totals 346.8 yards per game, ranks 97th.
