The West Virginia Mountaineers will travel to Florida on Saturday, October 28th, to play the UCF Knights at FBC Mortgage Stadium.
West Virginia University along with the University of Central Florida have accounted for 4 defeats and no victories on the football field over the past three weeks. On Saturday afternoon in Orlando, both of these schools will play one other for the first game as Big 12 rivals. The Knights come into this game off of a 31-29 defeat to the Oklahoma Sooners during their last game. The Mountaineers recently lost against the Oklahoma State Cowboys 48–34.
UCF just experienced one of its greatest games of the year in a close 31-29 defeat to the seventh-ranked Oklahoma in Norman, when it had a 23-17 lead early in the final period of play. But ultimately, it ended up being the Knights’ 4th consecutive defeat.
The offense at UCF isn’t responsible for the team’s dismal conference run. The Knights’ powerful rushing attack, which averages 232.4 yards per game and is 2nd in the Big 12, is a big reason why they boast the top-ranked total offense in the conference (499.6 yards per game).
With 281 overall rushing yards the previous week, Oklahoma State’s offense along with RB Ollie Gordon II tore through WVU’s defense. A pair of the top 10 running backs from the conference will be up against the Mountaineers this week.
During the Mountaineers’ game versus the Cowboys, Garrett Greene completed 15 of his 30 passes for 249 yards, a pair of touchdowns, and a single interception. He tallied 16 carries for a total of 117 yards. On 14 occasions for 72 yards, Justin Johnson Jr. carried the football, and he scored a touchdown. On 6 targets, Preston Fox caught 4 receptions to earn 81 yards in the game.
