Game Preview

In one of the most anticipated early season games of the year, Colorado and TCU square off in a key non-conference matchup (although a future Big 12 tilt thanks to realignment) this Saturday, giving us our first look at what Deion Sanders has been up to this offseason.

When compared to the club that lost to TCU 38-13 to open the 2022 season, this one is night and day. With Deion Sanders at the helm, the team has a lot more swagger and attitude to back up its superior talent and depth.

But how will it all fit together if the transfer portal is responsible for creating nearly the full two-deep? The Buffaloes will be a speedy team whose offense will try to keep the TCU defense on its heels, and their skill positions, especially with Travis Hunter at receiver, are superior to TCU’s in terms of NFL quality.

There is a potential that TCU won’t be able to hit the curveball the Buffs are going to throw, but only if the lines hold up (a number of seniors do at least add experience on the defensive front) and the defensive parts don’t get gassed.

Colorado is off to a rough start this year. First, there is potential for TCU’s offensive to be even more successful in 2023 than it was in 2022. Even though QB Max Duggan did a great job, Chandler Morris was the starter for a reason. His knee was injured in the game against Colorado, but he has since returned to lead a formidable receiving corps and a powerful ground game.

For another, the defense has more experience. While a couple key players have retired, this senior club still has a superb front three and could be even better at stopping the run.

Colorado is again virtually entirely made up of transfer players. There’s no denying the two-deep’s talent, but it’s easy to see why this group may have benefited from a preseason game versus Central Speedbump Tech back in August.
