The Ducks are in a tough spot in terms of the NCAA Football Playoff conversation after Oregon’s last-second field goal attempt to force overtime missed wide. For the remainder of the season, Bo Nix and the Ducks have one clear goal: to win and obliterate everyone standing in their way. The first team up is Washington State, who crawls into this match after losing to Arizona 44-6 at home, the Cougars’ second consecutive defeat. This game will take place on Saturday, October 21st at Autzen Stadium in Oregon.
In Week 7, the ninth-ranked Oregon Ducks suffered a discouraging 36-33 loss against the seventh-ranked Washington Huskies. With 2:11 remaining in the final quarter of play, they were one down from their win but failed to capitalize on a significant 4th down. Following a possession of the ball by the Huskies, Rome Odunze scored the game-winning touchdown on a 53-yard drive.
Even though capturing the Pac-12 Championship would probably secure Oregon a position in the NCAA Football Playoff if the Big Ten’s top teams consume one another, Oregon can still sweep the board and achieve all of its objectives, but it has no margin for mistakes now.
Since their week off, the Washington State Cougars have lost two consecutive matches, falling to Arizona 44-6 and UCLA 25-17 respectively. The Wildcats humiliated the Cougars last Saturday, out gaining Washington State 516-234 in the total number of yards and outscoring them 3-0 in turnovers. The Cougars gave up 44 straight points despite establishing a 6-0 lead in the initial quarter, which was a poor showing for the team.
The Cougars will be aggressive at the start of the game because they need to bounce back from their recent troubles since they have been running out of fuel lately. They have previously played the Ducks hard and their offense has some pop in the air, but currently they are struggling with their ground game.
