On Sunday, the Houston Texans will host the Indianapolis Colts at NRG Stadium for Week 2. In their 31-21 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, the Indianapolis Colts were 3.5-point home underdogs and failed to cover the spread. In his first NFL game, rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson threw for 223 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 40 yards and another score.
The Colts played admirably in their season opener. They played well for the most part, even without starting RB Jonathan Taylor, and took a 21-17 lead into the final quarter. Things went downhill in the fourth quarter when rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson was hurt and the Jaguars scored two touchdowns in a row. Thankfully, The Colts don’t think the injury is too significant, and they hope to bounce back here.
In Week 1, the Texans lost 25-9 to the Baltimore Ravens as 9.5-point road underdogs. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud was efficient, completing 28 of 44 passes for 242 yards, but Houston failed to score in its season debut.
When facing a strong Baltimore defense in Week 1, Houston’s offense was about as bad as expected. But there was good news, as quarterback C.J. Stroud completed 28 of 44 throws without being intercepted. His first game was marred by a turnover, but otherwise he did well. Even though WR Nico Collins performed well, the Texans’ running game was a major problem. In order to beat the Colts, they need Dameon Pierce to play better.
The game on Sunday will be the 44th time the Colts and Texans have met. With a 32-10-1 record and a 1-0 playoff record, Indianapolis dominates Houston. Last year’s Week 1 game between the Colts and Texans, which ended in a 20-20 tie, was one of the two ties in the NFL. T
The Texans’ Week 18 victory over the Colts in 2022 cost them the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. Although the Texans covered the spread in both games last season, they are just 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 matchups against the Colts.
