This weekend, the UFC will host a historic event in Singapore, and one of the most anticipated matches will be between rising contender Erin Blanchfield and previous championship challenger Taila Santos in the women’s flyweight division.

Talia Santos has been fighting at a higher level than Blanchfield for a longer period of time, and she has shown her worth against strong competition. She’s proven herself to be difficult all around with victories over Roxanne Modafferi and Joanne Wood and a near-miss versus Shevchenko.
Blanchfield’s survival gives Santos a chance to show the young gun a thing or two. Shevchenko spent most of the battle on the floor thanks to her efforts, and she also had the upper hand in the striking area thanks to her respectable power.
Compared to Blanchfield, Santos has a greater takedown success percentage (88%) and has done so against tougher competition. She has knocked out her opponents 10 times in her 19 victories thanks to her powerful punches.
This battle is close enough to make even Blanchfield’s most devoted supporters anxious. Blanchfield has the potential to outrun Santos on paper, but it might all go out the window if Santos is able to effectively counter her ground game.
