On December 16, the Miami (OH) Redhawks take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers at FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando, Florida in the Avocados From Mexico Cure Bowl.
Miami (OH) ended 1st in the MidAmerican Conference’s East division with a 7-1 record, and concluded the regular season with an overall record of 11-2. In the MAC Championship game, they defeated Toledo 23–14. Due to an injury, Miami (OH) qb Brett Gabbert will not play; Aveon Smith will take his place as the new starter. He could, however, move around and perform feats with his feet and he stood out for the RedHawks because of that. He isn’t as good a passer as Gabbert, but he can run and use his dual threat to become a problem for the Mountaineers. Miami dont really have a choice anyway and will look to get a win with their second string qb. With 895 yards and 12 touchdowns, Rashad Amos leads the Redhawks in rushes, and Gage Larvadian leads them in receptions with 643 yards and 6 touchdown catches. The defense of Miami (OH) has 10 interceptions and 34 quarterback sacks.
The Sun Belt Conference East Division’s second-place Appalachian State Mountaineers, with an overall record of 8-5, faced Troy in the championship game rather than James Madison and lost 49-23. The Mountaineers’ five-day winning streak was ended by the setback. In the defeat to Troy, quarterback Joey Aguilar of Appalachian State completed 276 passes for 276 yards. QB Joey Aguilar completed 3,546 passes for 3,546 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions throughout the course of the regular season, while Kaedin Robinson had 787 yards and 10 scoring catches, and Nate Noel ran for 834 yards and 5 scores.
