Saturday night college football action from Clarence TC Ching Athletics Complex has the New Mexico State Aggies taking on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The Aggies and the Lobos just ended their game. New Mexico State won by 10 points in that game. The last time we saw Hawaii, they were playing Oregon. Ultimately, the Warriors would lose by a landslide.
For the Aggies, this is game number five of the season. After starting the season with a 41-30 setback to UMass on August 26, New Mexico State evened their record with a 58-21 rout over Western Illinois. New Mexico State lost 33-17 the following week to Liberty. In their loss, the Aggies gave up 526 total yards (250 on the ground).
New Mexico State scored 17 points in the second quarter and held the Lobos scoreless for the rest of the game, on route to a 27-17 victory over New Mexico. QB Diego Pavia threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns, and he also rushed for 96 yards on 11 carries, which was the most. As a wide receiver, Jonathan Brady caught three passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
The Aggies’ scoring was all over the place through their first three games. In each contest, they let their opponent score 21 or more points. New Mexico State will need to rely on its defense to dictate play on the road. The Aggies defeated New Mexico in the fourth game of the season by a score of 397–220.
The Warriors also kicked off their season on August 26, losing their first game to Vanderbilt by a score of 35-28. Hawaii lost their second game against Stanford 37-24, but they bounced back to defeat Albany 31-20 on September 9. The Hawaii defense was able to limit the Great Danes’ attack to 239 yards (115 passing), but they also committed 11 penalties and had three interceptions.
Hawaii lost 55-10 to Oregon last Saturday after allowing 34 points in the first half. Quarterback Brayden Schager threw for 131 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and Pofele Ashlock had the most receptions (eight) and the most receiving yards (47). Jordan Johnson gained 39 yards on four carries, making him the team’s leading rusher.
