If there has been one series throughout this initial round of the NHL playoffs that hasn’t disappointed one bit it’s the Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames series. It has had anything and everything that embodies the true spirit of great playoff hockey. Now, as we reach game six of the series with Calgary holding a 3-2 lead over Dallas, who will be playing as hosts today, the only question left is, who will be leaving Dallas as the victor? Will it be Calgary who with one win will move on to the next round of the playoffs, or will it be Dallas forcing the series to go into a pivotal game seven?
This series has had everything that true hockey fans love about the sport. It’s been as physical as ever, there have been great performances from both goalkeepers, and even if the goal quota on both teams hasn’t been as high as in other series, both squads haven’t stayed away from playing some strong and true offensive hockey with chances on both sides flying through the ice. Still, Calgary has shown that they know how to strike when it’s most needed. If you need any proof just look at their game 5 win where all Calgary needed was a strong performance in the third period to take the Stars out for good.
Now, as the series heads back to Dallas, the Flames will be riding not only on their two wins in the last couple of games which helped them turn the series around but also the fact that no team in the western conference played better on the road than them throughout the season. Now, with game six in Dallas, all Calgary needs is to show once again why they are so good on the road, even without having to score too many goals and they should be more than good here. One thing is for sure though, Calgary’s defense better be ready for what is coming to them because Dallas will surely come out swinging for the win from the moment the puck drops.
Dallas on the other side has one thing in mind and one thing only, they need to win tonight. Their main advantage, which has been the key for them to still be alive in the series, is how good goalkeeper Jake Oettinger has played. If Dallas had known from before that Oettinger would become such an important piece in their lineup they would’ve probably had him play all day, every day. Now, as they face elimination they will need Oettinger to keep a hold against Calgary’s offense, while Dallas’ offense tries to break through the Flames defense and try to make it to game seven.
