What are two things that the Minnesota Wild and Seattle Kraken have in common as they gear up to meet up on the ice for action tonight? That they will both be coming into this game riding on three-game winning streaks each. Asides from that the reality between both teams could not be further away from comparison.
While Minnesota is looking more than fit for the upcoming postseason, Seattle might already be thinking about what’s to come next season. As Minnesota gears up to try and collect their fourth straight win to continue collecting an edge in their chase against St. Louis in the Western Conference’s Central Division, could the underdog Kraken spoil their plans?
If we have to give credit where credit is due then let’s start off with Seattle. Why Seattle and not Minnesota? Because even with their season having gone so poorly, the Kraken are still going out there on the ice, mostly moved by the inspiration and good feelings they get from their loyal fan base and they have done some very good things as of lately.
The biggest example of this being their win over Central Division leaders Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night. Yes, one could argue that their offense has been lackluster through the majority of the season, but on a good note their defense has played some decent hockey. So, what are the Kraken playing for now, when it feels like all else is lost? Simple, they’re playing for pride and to give their fans something to cheer for, which in any sport can always turn out to be the biggest pick me up around to transform any underdog into a winner.
For Minnesota on the other hand, who are also coming into this game riding on a sweet three-game winning streak, following their W’s against the Sharks, Canadiens and Canucks, winning at home is a must, especially with what it can do for their playoff aspirations. Right now, their biggest competitors are the St. Louis Blues who while having one less loss than Minnesota, also have two less wins, giving the Wild a slight edge for second place in their division.
Minnesota’s offense has been great all season long with left winger Kirill Kaprizov standing out as their best player, and while their defense and goaltending has been regular to good, Minnesota should have more than enough to put up a very strong fight against Seattle tonight.
Minnesota just needs to constantly remember that every win from now until the end of the season will be as important as ever so the possibilities of dropping the game at home against the Kraken shouldn’t be entertained.
